1. Apply a volumizer, such as AVEDA Phomollient™, to hair and blow dry using a large round brush. For added volume over-direct hair to the opposite side you want it to lay.

2. Make a deep side part.

3. Place a hair clip around ear length to create a visual guide for where to stop curling.

4. Pre heat your wand or curling iron.

5. Take 2″ sections of hair and wrap it around the barrel, away from your face, starting with the hair just below the ear working your way towards the ends. Hold for about 30 seconds.

6. Once your curls have cooled, you can either run your fingers through them for a more beachy feel, or lightly run a boar bristle brush through for a softer look.

7. Make it shine! Gently apply a product, such as AVEDA Brilliant™ Anti-Humectant Pomade or Spray-on Shine, to your waves.

8. Make it Stay! Mist a flexible hold hairspray, such as AVEDA Air-Control™, all over your hair.

9. Lastly, ENJOY your beautiful mermaid waves!

5 Tips for an Amazing Selfie

Selfie: A self-portrait, usually taken with a digital or phone camera.

Here are 5 easy tips to making your selfie look amazing:

oneThink Big

Apply the Hair Potion to your roots and rub it in.

Apply the Hair Potion to your roots and rub it in. Follow this up with some teasing if you’d like maximum volume that stays!

Add volume to your hair. Try flipping your head upside down or teasing your roots slightly. You can also sprinkle some of Aveda’s Pure Abundance™ Hair Potion at the roots for volume that lasts!

This is the correct angle to hold your camera with great natural lighting in front of me.

DO: Make your face appear slimmer by holding your device from above (think a 45º angle); tilt your chin down slightly; and turn your head slightly. Be sure to fully extend the arm that is holding the device.

The camera is being held too low here. This is great of you want to look like you have multiple chins or add weight to your appearance.

DON’T: Look straight at the camera or hold it lower than your face.

DO: Opt for natural and window lighting (like in a car). Also, facing the light source, so it hits you more on one side of your face if you can.

DON’T: Avoid bright lights behind you, also known as “backlighting” and florescent lighting.

DO: Be aware of your surroundings and do a once over on what is behind you, to avoid having things that should be avoided in your pic.

DON’T: Be oblivious to the person who is picking their nose or making out behind you.

This would be an example of a lighting and background DON'T. I have a completely unsuspecting photo bomber..Oops!

fiveUse a Filter

If your smart phone does not have a good photo editing tool, I recommend downloading Pixlr Express. You can also use this free editor on your computer by going to By using a filter you can make your pic look more eye catching. You can also create really cool collages with this program. Did I mention it is free?
